resolution gets wierd when i change to 144 Hz

I have my got a Phillips 144Hz monitor screen connected with a DVI cable to my computer, and when i go to nvidia settings or the control panel and change to 144Hz my resolution gets automatically lowered. When i try to change back to 1920 x 1080 nothings happens. I'm currently at 60Hz...

    anyone familiar with this problem?

    See if this helps you:
To output 1080p at 120Hz or 144Hz, you need a dual link DVI-D or DisplayPort cable and connect those to your monitor and computer. These standards include support for higher resolutions and refresh rates. HDMI 1.3 or higher can also be used to output 1080p content at 144Hz.

There you go 1080p 144Hz - Which cable do I need?

It is possible OP is still using his old DVI cable, the 144Mhz monitor should include a dual link DVI cable(?).
