Hello, I have a similar problem - searching these forums, I see a lot of people mentioning this kind of thing, I'm not certain any are exactly the same as mine, but this seems the closest.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop, bought about a year and a half ago with Vista, just yesterday used the student download version of 7 to do a custom install. It's all gone fine, everything is working perfectly well, except now my monitor won't show the right resolution. The only two options it is giving me in the 'Screen Resolution' window are 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. I don't know a lot about resolutions, but I have a widescreen monitor, and I'm pretty sure the resolution used to be 1200 x something, or maybe even more. As it is, stuck in 1024 x 768, everything looks stretched too wide, and too blurry/chunky. I immediately thought 'best update the drivers', but the automatic update is telling me I already have the best drivers installed, and I don't know how to find out what monitor/graphics card I actually have, because in device manager etc. they are simply showing up as 'generic pnp monitor' and 'standard vga graphics adapter'. Is there any way I can work this out to find the right drivers, or is there another way round this problem?
