Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 Fan Problem

Hello,

Today I just bought myself a gtx 960 and I notice that the fans tend to struggle to turn on. What I would like to do to put my mind at ease is to have my fans running all the time so I don't have to worry about them struggling to turn on. I use evga precision x to control the fan speed, however my main question is how much rpm should I put my fans at? I would do 100% but won't that hurt the card overtime? I just need help finding the recommended percent for them to be at during all times of use (gaming or not gaming)

Thanks!

100% would be very fast and and very loud, that is what it would spin at if it was to hit say 89c What do you mean they have an issue starting, do you mean spinning up or physically have a hard time staying spinning. What model is the gpu, it probably has a design that it does not start spinning the fans till it gets above say 45c.

Hello I found the issue it only starts when it gets really hot. Can I still have the fans stay on automatically? If so what percent should they be at?

Yes, I use msi afterburner my self and have a fan curve set so that it is always on at 28% or higher (around 780 rpm). Mine normally does not spin up till 60C it would seem, so that can sometimes make it constantly spin up then off at load so I set this and its still whisper silent. Your starting rpm will depend on your fan size and temp of the pc of course.

Ah thank you but I rather not fill all of that out yet, sorry. My last question is that is it ok to have the gpu running at 100% while I'm in a game? I notice it gets really hot even when the fans are on and I'd like to try it out. I have it on 100 percent right now as a test. Is it true that the gpu will get danger if it stays at 100? Thanks and I will be glad to mark the thread as solved after this

Your gpu is running at 100c at load (in game) with your fans at 100%? That is awfully hot. What game and resolution?

Hi,
I agree you really shouldn't be more than 85c tops,
You must have really poor ventilation = poor intake and very poor exhaust to be getting that hot or your target temp is WAY too high which most are set to 79c
Overclocking with evga raises the target temp way too much.

If your getting that temp then I would have it lowest at 30% and let it ramp up from there as leaving it at 100% will wear out the fan for sure if its 24/7 more than if it was just ramped up when needed.
