I had a similar problem with my new HP e9290f with a GTX 260 video card and a Viewsonic VX2835wm monitor. It turned out that nVidia messed up the driver for my monitor so it was recognizing it as a TV. Someone was nice enough to fix nVidia's driver for my by editing the HEX code and now it works. What monitor are you using?

I am using a monitor that i bought from ebuyer.com about 4 years ago, a bog standard 17" LCD, it does say on the website that it only support 1024 x 768, but it did 1280 x 1024 fine in vista and xp. It picks it up as a plug and play monitor on device manager but gets its correct model when you go on display properties

its an LM17A on display propeties, even though the back of the monitor on the label says LM17C, but i dont think i can find drivers for it anywhere
