    Graphics Card not recognized

I would try to find the resolution before posting, but Windows 7 doesn't recognize my graphics card and i forgot which one it is i had, so i couldn't search for the exact model amongst the forums.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 which came pre-installed with Windows Vista. When i upgraded a couple of days ago to Windows 7, most of my video games stopped working giving me errors that, after i looked them up, refer to problems with the graphics. I looked up solutions and most said to get the most recent driver.

I tried automatically updating the driver for my graphics card through the device manager, but it said i already have the best/most recent driver installed. My question is: How do i find out which graphics card i actually have (currently it says i have a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter), and where can i find the driver for it to get my games to work. Also, my report from the directx diagnostic tool returns the following (if this helps).

Card name: Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
    Manufacturer: (Standard display types)
    Chip type: NVIDIA
    DAC type: 8 bit
    Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0407&SUBSYS_022E1028&REV_A1
    Display Memory: n/a
    Dedicated Memory: n/a
    Shared Memory: n/a
    Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (1Hz)
    Monitor Name: Generic Non-PnP Monitor

    And driver info:

    Driver Name: vga
    Driver File Version: 6.01.7600.16385 (English)
    Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
    DDI Version: unknown
    Driver Model: unknown
    Driver Attributes: Final Retail
    Driver Date/Size: 7/13/2009 13:25:51, 10752 bytes
    WHQL Logo'd: Yes

    Thanks for the help

    Try downloading CPU-z from Majorgeeks.com

It will tell you motherboard, memory, & GPU (graphics card)

According to VEN_10DE&DEV_0407, it's NVIDIA, so you may need to download the driver from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

You have a Nvidia 8600M GT video card. The latest driver is the 195.62 this is for the 32 bit version of Windows Seven NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL You can try and install it by clicking the setuo.exe file. If this deosn;t work then you can use this method. right click on dispaly adapter in device manager>update driver>browse my cpnputer>have disk>navigate to where you downloaded the driver>click (or double click the .inf file>hit ok>then next and let it install. If you are still unable to get it to install you may need oto modify the .inf file. Try these methods first and please check back, Thanks. Fabe
