GDDR5 comes to Nvidia...

Nvidia have just released the GT240 1GB GDDR5

In case you have been a little saddened by delays in Fermi production, and lack of something new by Nvidia. Cheer up today, that is if you like old tech mixed with something new. The GT 240 launched today are not exactly new cards, but they bring support for GDDR5 memory. Boasting of 96 stream processors (oops, forgot they are called CUDA cores now) this is the same crippled G92 core used in the old 8800 GS except that the memory interface is now 128-bit instead of 192-bit in the old 8800 GS.

now this card only has a 128-bit bus, but the higher RAM frequency offests the smaller bus.....so in reality memory bandwidth is equivalent to GDDR3 with a 256-bit bus.

this card will actually replace the 9600GT.
