    what does this BIOS video setting mean?


    Dell optiplex 380

    In BIOS under settings~video~primary video (note that 'primary video' is the only choice under 'video'. Even when a video card is added (this dell does have integrated video))

    "This field determines which video controller will become the primary video controller when 2 controllers are available in the system. The selection matters only if there are 2 video controllers present

    'Auto=Use the ad-in video controller' (default)

    'ONBOARD/PEG=Use the integrated video controller unless a PCI-Express Graphics (PEG) card is installed. The PEG card will override and disable the integrated video controller

    Dont these two say the same thing?

    Basically yes, but it`s nothing to worry about, as long as the video is coming from the correct source, you`re fine.

    I`ve personally never come across a board that had to be manually changed, if you add a card all you`d have to do is install the drivers.
