Really? What gives? not for gamers, does this mean it's not for the home desktop?

There seem to be conflicting reports about the new fermi chipset. Some are saying that the yields from the new architecture have been very poor indeed and that is why there is a delay.
Nvidia were originally supposed to ship the first top end part at the end of November but that's looking unlikely and sources are now saying first quarter next year. So, any time up to April.
Other reports contradict this and say this is going to be the muts nuts and a radical rethink like the 8800 series.
Yet other reports say that Nvidia is releasing a high end part aimed at CUDA and GP gpu. Not for gamers in other words.
ATI on the other hand seem to have the opposite strategy. They introduce a mid range gaming part and build up from it to a top end one.
I've always been an Nvidia person but I reckon ATI cards will come down when Nvidias eventually hit the street.
    It's very tempting

ive moved these into their own thread as you were drifting off topic.

but yes, ''fermi' is not looking overly promising at this point..... couple that with the constant barrage of info about them expanding theyre (cuda/telsa) range, points to the fact that when it is finally released its gonna match these workstation cards in price...(if you think ATI launch prices are bad, fermi will make you sick )

have a look at this thread for a little more info.

This guy Charlie's a bit of a ranter Skunk.
Anyway, I was going to say that, whatever the reason for the delay, ATI are going to grab the market for DX11.
However I just had a look round a few retail sites and the medium to top end ATI cards are like hen's teeth. They're all on pre-order.
    Would you consider going over?

lol.......im on the edge mate, these new 5 series cards are HOT!!!

usually id wait a few months after the launch of a new card so the horror stories can pour in, but the idea of ''Eyefinity'' has got me, & Christmas is on our doorsteps..

add to that all this rubbish info about Nvidia, i think my ship is starting to sail....

I just had a look at my top 5 UK retail sites and all are out of stock on the 5850 and 5870.
I think that the 5970 was just a dream that some of us had.
Seems to me that I read that both Nvidia and ATI get their chips from the same source company.
If that company cannot keep up with ATIs new DX11 cards then ATI will not be able to take advantage of this breathing space from Nvidia (if that's what it is).
On the other hand Nvidia will have the same issue with their 300 series cards (if they are coming)
The only top end cards that one could buy straight away are the upper 200 series from Nvidia.
Seems a confusing mess for us gamers etc.

    lol....confusing is not the word

''many'' cards gives the illusion of choice, this makes potential customers more likely to buy one of they're products b/c it seems they have one for every budget..

but tech minded ppl know these company's create a product or (core) & highly under-clock & chop it up into smaller cards, so instead of cards actually increasing performance wise as time goes by all they're really doing is bringing the architecture back up to stock spec..

so unless you buy ''top end'' essentially your buying a crippled card. (that dont mean everyone should be looking to spend a fortune on top end cards, it just points out what your actually paying for IMO)

    :)

Did anyone see this yesterday? about the fermi GF100
A few hours ago, Nvidia Senior PR Manager Brian Burke uploaded on the company’s Facebook page a picture of what appears to be the first working sample of a 40nm GF100 high-end card based on Fermi architecture, the first to make its way on the internet.
    Continued Fudzilla
