DWM crashes / distorted window titles Greetings to everyone in the forum,
I've recently managed to get my graphics card (please take a look at my system specs) to work in Win 7 using info from the forum. Saddly, I still can't enjoy Aero because of frequent crashes of Desktop Window Manager. When this happens DWM is (usually) restarted and I get the message illustrated in pic2.jpg (see attachments)
I found out a way to disable Fast Write from the registry and that seems to have helped (crashes happen less often now), but it didn't eliminate the problem.
Sometimes I also get distorted window titles like those in pic1.jpg (and pic2.jpg)
I don't know where to start, if you could offer some guidance I'd be grateful. (Maybe disabling AGP Write as well could help?) | My System Specs |

Hi, torrentg
Actually, I did use your method, I wouldn't have made it otherwise. In the beginning I also installed CCC and Ati Tray Tools but later I removed them since I wouldn't need the functionality.
After succesfully installing the drivers, the problem I described in the above post, came up. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @2.93GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-8SG800 Memory 4 GB DDR4 (Dual Channel) Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 Monitor(s) Displays Syncmaster 2693HM Screen Resolution 1920x1200 PSU Chieftec 550W |

It has to do with your motherboard. I just checked and they only supply XP chipset drivers.
Update to the latest bios if you're not running that.
Then Google around for Vista drivers for SIS648 AGP. I already did a little and it seems that Vista drivers were never even made so unfortunately, you're probably going to be out out luck on this one and need new hardware to run 7. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Hello torrentg, thanks for your concern,
I had that problem with the chipset drivers and I thought the same you did. Everest reported that the AGP was completely disabled. There is no update even in www.sis.com and, additionally, the old XP drivers couldn't load, not by a long shot (system wouldn't even boot). By chance I found out that Windows Update offered SiS AGP drivers as an Optional (!?!?) Update. I downloaded and installed them and they actually... worked!!! Everest reported the AGP enabled and everything seems fine apart from the problem I described in this thread. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @2.93GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-8SG800 Memory 4 GB DDR4 (Dual Channel) Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 Monitor(s) Displays Syncmaster 2693HM Screen Resolution 1920x1200 PSU Chieftec 550W |

Reading things like this makes me glad. Happy for you and enjoy!
Now that the AGP bus is working well, install the video card driver again. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Hi, I did this. Aero interface now seems more stable. I hope it stays that way!
