    problem with resolution

When I had Windows XP on my laptop, the max resolution was 1280x1024. But now with Windows 7 the maximum is 1024x768 and the 1280x1024 option is missing. How to fix this?

See if there is a driver update available for your display adapter and if so, install it. Or, if not already installed, you may need to install a display driver that is specifically for your model laptop which should be available from the support site of the manufacturer of your machine.

Also, check the settings of your monitor (built in display) under "screen resolution," "display," when you right click the desktop, and see if there is a different one available in the drop down list to select that may be more appropriate. If the wrong display is selected, this could limit the resolutions available.
