Windows 7 won't turn off monitor

Dear all,

I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my MSI PR200 (MS-1221). Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family . Current Latest Bios Version 1.5

It works perfectly.

However, I want to program my screen to shut down after 2 minutes (either plugged to AC or battery mode). But it does not work. I've installed the drivers available online, at the MSI web site. Yet, the problem is not gone.

Any idea on how can I solve this issue?

Regards

Hi.

Yeah. Something is likely keeping it open like an audio or video player. Maybe the mouse is being detected as moving when it's sitting there. A few reasons.

To begin to test, close every application with task manager, that is not needed for Windows to run.

This problem recently started happening on my PC. I tried your suggestion and closed all programs. This fixed the problem. Now I'm trying to figure out which program(s) were resetting the timer. One by one I opened each of the programs (that were running when it wouldn't shut off) and waited to see if that program kept it from shutting off. Unfortunately none of them stopped the display from turning off.

The only difference I can tell is that IE was no longer displaying all of the same web sites as it did before I closed it. Could one of the web sites IE was displaying be refreshing automatically and this cause the inactivity timer to reset?

The other possibility is whichever program was the culprit stopped doing whatever was resetting the timer when I closed the program. That will make it very hard to diagnose.
