Graphics / Driver Advice I have just moved from XP to Windows 7. My system is mainly used for browsing and watching video. I have let windows install the drivers but am wondering if I have the best ones installed. The reason I ask is that when watching videos during fast action scenes sometimes the video is not smooth. Seems to be a bit jerky. Not sure what that's called in technical terms. These are my specs: Processor
3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium D
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Not hyper-threaded
3072 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
Display
Radeon X1300 / X1550 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) [Display adapter]
Radeon X1300 / X1550 Series Secondary (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) [Display
adapter] Driver: ATI Technologies Inc. 24/04/2009 8.56.1.15
Samsung SyncMaster [Monitor] (24.0"vis, s/n HVZLC02813, December 2006)
Multimedia
Creative SB Audigy 4 (WDM) I understand that my video card is no longer supported by Radeon and I have not installed the CCC as I'm really not sure if that would be of any benefit.
Any suggestions?
Thanks. | My System Specs

victord66 I would give this one a try, ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver
Just released last week, so a lot newer than the driver from Windows Update. Don't let this, Quote: Note: AMD’s DirectX 9 ATI Radeon graphics accelerators are not officially supported under Windows 7. If the user chooses to, they can install the ATI Catalyst Windows Vista graphics driver under Windows 7. Please be aware that none of the new Windows 7 graphics driver (WDDM 1.1) features are supported (as the Windows Vista level graphics driver is limited to WDDM 1.0 level support). Using the ATI Catalyst Windows Vista driver under Windows 7 is not officially supported by AMD, and as such AMD will not provide any form of customer support for users running in this configuration worry you, the driver will install and work fine; or at least it should (using the exact same driver on my second computer with a X1950 in it, and it works no problem).
As for CCC that is entirely up to you. If you don't want it when installing the above, just select Custom install and un-select it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Win 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Phenom II x4 955 @ 4 GHz. Thanks stormy13. I've downloaded the driver, and it seems to install a manager of some sort, but when I go the control panel and ask it to update my video driver it says I have the best one already installed. Even when I point it to the new driver folder. ???? I don't know what's going on here. Nothing seems to have changed. | My System Specs

Right click card in the device manager. Update driver software. Browse my computer. let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the .inf. Hit ok. Hit next.
The .inf is in C:\ATI somewhere, created when you extracted the original .exe that you downloaded by attempting first install.
After it installs with above method, reboot and then choose an Aero theme. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

I've done this. There are four or five folders with drivers in them, but on each one I click I get an error that says this folder does not contain the correct drivers for my equipment. | My System Specs

Because you're not double clicking on the .inf and instead, you were choosing the folder install method. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

I'm sorry but I'm following your instructions to the letter. Each .inf file I click on says the same thing - not compatible. | My System Specs

There are only two possibilities then.
You're doing something wrong
or
Are you running x64 Windows? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

I'm not running x64 so I guess I'm doing something wrong. There are five folders with drivers. Which one should I be installing?

AVS_RIO
AVS_T200

Go to C:\ATI in Windows Explorer.
In the top right, search for *.inf
Tell me the ones it finds and I'll tell you which to use. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 Graphics / Driver Advice problems?
