GeForce 9600 GT performance drop on Windows 7 Ultimate

I have an nVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT and recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit) on my desktop PC. I expected an increase in graphics performance - which was the case with my laptop (which has an nVIDIA Quadro FX 770M) - but instead the Windows Experience Index dropped drastically.

The "Graphics: Desktop performance for Windows Aero" went down from 5.9 to 3.7 and the "Gaming graphics: 3D business and gaming graphics performance" went down from 5.9 to 4.6. However, the other subscores - for processor, memory and hard disk performance - went up to 7.5, 7.5 and 5.9, respectively.

The processor is an Intel Xeon E5405 @ 2Ghz (two processors) and it has 16 GB RAM. The power supply is a CoolerMaster Real Power RS-850-ESBA (850W). I've installed the latest drivers (version 8.17.11.9562) from 2009-11-20 and I've also tried reinstalling the drivers several times - but with the same results.

Does anyone know what the problem is - and what to do about it?

Hi. Look into updating the motherboard/chipset drivers.
