Radeon9600=Back to WinXP?

Hello,

like a lot of people I'm having problems with drivers for Radeon 9600XT. Ati Catalyst doesn't work, WDDM driver doesn't work, there's a still Error 43 "The device has stopped..." or something like that. I tried different versions, Omega drivers...

Aero works fine, but videos, both streamed and stored are bloody slow and I can't get better resolution than 1280x1024.

I'd appreciate any help... or I'll use Win XP, although I love W7 .

It seems in this thread Problem ATI Radeon 9600 series :S the 9600 series cards driver has been moved to legacy support due to something in the WDDM 1.1 being incompatible with that range of cards.

Thanks, frankly I'm a little bit scared to update BIOS, because my veteran computer is a little bit... you know, but I can try the chipset update. And what exactly does 'legacy support' mean?

I got my ATI radeon to work by manually going into the update drivers, picking driver from a list and selecting the INF file of a windows xp driver which i modded with mobility modder.

To the OP: You have an nForce2 motherboard. That's why you have error 43. The board in incompatible with Windows 7 or Vista because nVidia never made a driver for the CPU to AGP bridge...as you can see in the device manager under system devices. You could try to see if a Windows Update will help, but I really doubt it. (With that error 43, no way you have had Aero.)

To the poster right above me....do the same thing as you've done before, only with the Vista driver so you could have Aero. No modding necessary.
