Windows 7 locks up with GeForce 6200

Windows 7 has been randomly locking up on me and I think it's an issue with the GeForce 6200 AGP 8x that I installed. I've noticed quite a few problems using the 6200 but not a definitive solution. I'm running the latest drivers from NVidia, 195.62. Has anyone had luck smoothing the problems out? The locks occur at random times during random events, surfing the web, playing solitaire or Kuma, opening Outlook, etc., and I have to hit the reset button or drop the power to get the system up and running again. Windows doesn't show any errors in the Event Viewer for the lock ups, only afterwards saying the system didn't shutdown properly.

I've attached the system info if that helps.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Welcome to seven forums genoDillon. Unfortunately this is one of those situations that the age of your system hasn't kept up with the operating systems. The only thing you can do is go to the Abit site and make sure you have the latest bios.05/07/06 for XP and chipset drivers 05/26/05 XP. And install them in compatibility mode Compatibility Mode And hope that the 195.62 driver will work. Try the solution in this thread post #2 GeForce 6200 512MB AGP 8X running Windows Aero. You can also scroll down on this thread and review the 5 other threads for a solution. Good luck with it Fabe

Thanks, Fabe! That's what I was afraid of. All Bios and chipset drivers are up-to-date. I'll go through the other threads as there are a couple I haven't seen. I do appreciate you pointing me in a direction. I'm just hoping not to have to update the system yet, but I'll do what needs to be done.

    Thanks again!
