Graphics card driver installed, but cant use it?? I'm using an old geforce fx5500, and windows 7 found and installed the drivers for it. I look in Device Manager, and I see my fx5500 and my onboard graphics both listed, and both reporting no issues. But when I right click on desktop and select Screen Resolution, the Display drop-down only lists the onboard graphics.
I only have one monitor, and I had to plug it in to the onboard graphics for installation, because my computer's BIOS and POST never appear on a monitor plugged in to the fx5500 (BIOS doesn't recognize it?). This was never a problem in XP though, it always did the same thing every time there. I installed XP on my onboard graphics, then switched to the card. And when booting, it would just show a blank screen til XP came up.
Is my card too old to be fully recognized? It is pretty ancient, only the 128mb version of the fx5500. I see everyone now using the fx5500 all have 256mb, is the driver different?
I just want to get off the onboard graphics, with its crippling 16mb memory! | My System Specs |

I tried it anyhow and the installation detected that I wasn't running vista, and closed itself. I went back and looked for something closer to what I needed, and found they don't make drivers for an fx5500 for windows 7. There were windows 7 drivers, but only for newer cards. I also tried the forceware 96.85 but for vista 32 bit, and that one at least seemed to complete installation, although it still didn't solve my original problem.
Is there no support for this card, because its just too out of date? | My System Specs | | OS windows 7 CPU Celeron 1.7 Motherboard Biostar U8668-D Memory 512 Graphics Card Geforce fx5500 Monitor(s) Displays 20" Dell LCD Screen Resolution 1600x1200 PSU 400W Hard Drives 60gig & 80gig Other Info Computer's comin up on ten years old, the big One-Oh... Hi hotrodhearse.....
you could try & remove the driver completely from the system, reboot & enter in ''safe mode'', then run the driver in ''compatibility mode'' for vista or XP....
if that fails to work, the card may not be supported at all.... try to go to the 'have disk' dialog, and find the folder where the driver files where extracted; most probably (C:\NVIDIA), then select nv_disp.dll | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 RC CPU Pentium Dual Core E5200 Motherboard Asrock G31M-S Memory 2 GB DDR2-800 @ dual Channel Graphics Card Galaxy Nvidia Geforce 9500GT Sound Card Realtek ALC662 Audio Screen Resolution 1158x864 @ 72 Hz |
