Problems with 2nd Display
Hi,
a few weeks ago (with windows xp) I was using both my 17" and 24" monitors from dell, and all of a sudden the 2nd display stopped working (it appears to not be receiving a connection from my computer) I then updated all my drivers, and checked if there was any monitor drivers needed (nope).
when I switch my monitors, whichever is plugged in the right outlet works (therefore eliminating whether or not the cables/monitor is not functioning)
I did some internetting and the only solution that semi worked was:
1. unplug all power and dvi cables from bothe the monitors and the computer
2. wait a while
3. replug, and boot up
with this, both monitor would work up until the windows xp loading screen, after windows loaded the 2nd monitor would fail to receive a signal (so I do not think its the port on my video card)
Yesterday I had some time, so I installed my copy of windows 7, and all drivers and such.
fortunately both my monitors worked, until I was stupid enough to physically rearrange them (I wanted the bigger monitor to be on the other side), while doing this the monitor cable got unplugged and I had lost my 2nd monitor, again.
so I did the ol' unplug everything and wait some time trick.
and it worked! (thus i know its definitely not my video card), I went to sleep watching some TV shows on it.
when I woke up my computer was asleep, upon resuming activity on my computer, my 2nd monitor failed to be detected once again.
when I go to my nvidia options or the display options the 2nd monitor is not detected, therefore I cant extend my desktop to it or acknowledge it any way.
I think if I unplug everything and wait some time, it may temporarily fix the problem, but I really don't want to keep doing that (i notice it takes atleast 30 minutes of it being unplugged to revert back to functioning)
so.. does anyone have any suggestions?
