Monitor detection AMD versus Nvidia
I purchased the following card for use in my HTPC.
Newegg.com - MSI N550GTX-Ti Cyclone OC GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Using the latest Nvidia driver, 285.62, I couldn't get the card to detect a second monitor on boot. The second monitor is only detected a few seconds before the desktop appears.
I've tried different setups on the card using either the Mini HDMI port or the DVI ports, always having two monitors hooked up, but only one monitor is detected until a few seconds before the desktop appears on both monitors.
It's not an OS problem, as it happens whether I boot using XP, Vista or 7.
I suspect that I have a bum card or this happens on certain makes of Nvidia cards, or faulty ones. I was using an AMD HD 6570, prior to the switch. I've never had this problem with an AMD card. Two monitors have always been detected upon boot using one of the following cards in the past. HD 4670, HD 5670, HD 5570 or HD 6570.
I switched to the MSI card as it's supposed to run cooler that the usual GPU, because of it's cooling solution.
