Direct X 10.1 I believe. If you haven't, then you should download the newest DX Redistributable available on MS's website.

Yeah. The 9800 GTX+ is only a DX 10 card. Even if you did install DX 11, the only card out there that is a DX 11 card is the new Radeon.

You can install DX 11, your card just won't take advantage of any of the features introduced after DX 10.1.

You may not really need to. The version of DirectX that is included with Win7 is supposed to be backwards compatible.

However, I have had some applications (probably games or game demos) complain about missing DLLs or other DirectX components. Running the DX updater fixed that. I'm not sure why those pieces weren't included in the released version of Win7. As far as I know, running the DX updater does no harm.

One to cut back on the size of the install disk, and two the missing DX files should have been installed when the game/etc was installed. I always run the latest DirectX Redistributable on a clean install of Windows once all drivers are installed, cuts down on any potential problems, that and a lot of my games are portable (don't need to be installed on a clean Windows install) and installed to a second hard drive, so any previous DX files they need won't be there.

I think he was asking whether he needed to install direct x and the answer would be yes.

There is only one direct x end user runtime so regardless of what windows seven says you can only run direct x 10 because it's all the graphics card allows
