Latest NVIDIA ForceWare Video Drivers Windows 7

Yes. thanks a lot SK. I've just installed them and they seem good.
This is probably a dumb question.
All my games are in my Vista x64 install (I'm dual booting with W7 RC).
I can access all my media files from W7 and they work well but I haven't tried games yet.
Would that work or would I have to install again in W7 to see the benefit of these drivers?

Thanks, John:D

its always touch & go running games from another partition or HDD, most of the time they work, but you wont have any ''saved game'' files....:(

its a continual ''work in progress''....
Most games these days install everything in their own directories without system crosslinked files (or DLLs) so that's typically not a problem. I do it all the time and it's an easy backup method. Saved games usually have to be copied to the perspective partition user directories but that depends on the game.

As for the 185 series drivers... I agree, they are quite awesome. I noticed a huge difference in gaming. I'm very impressed. I'm using the 185.68 drivers that were for Vista but I'll be trying the 185.81 drivers soon.

I'm in the process of installing the 7100 RC build (the official release - I'm a Technet subscriber.) I was initially having problems with the graphics in that I couldn't enable SLI and couldn't seem to tell the system that my second monitor is on the left, not the right.

Well after running the Windows Easy Transfer from a 1TB removeable that I saved everything to prior to the upgrade, the second monitor is on the left and the cursor slides off the correct side to get there. I then went to the Nvidia website and downloaded and installed the 64bit version of the 185.81 driver.

That solved the last of the problems and I was able to enable the SLI support.

BTW, I really like the Windows Easy Transfer utility. It does a good job and produces nice reports on what was transferred and what you are going to need to re-install to bring the new computer in line with the old one.

With these "Windows 7" drivers, incl. the 185.xx ones, my GTX 260 runs full 3D speed all the time. With the WHQL 182.50 Vista driver it throttles down to 2D speed when I'm not gaming which give a more quiet PC as the GTX260 is running much cooler.

Is this a bug in my Windows 7 installation, or somethimg else wrong?

I'm wondering about this too. I previously have been using the Vista64 drivers in Windows 7 because the Win7 drivers sucked compared to the Vista64 ones. Is this still the case?

its not W7.....its the drivers

this problem has annoyed me over the past 4 months or so...some drivers throttle some don't, my 260 does not like running at full clocks while idle (its highly OCed out of the box so it gets pretty toasty), my card is a full 10c hotter without the driver throttle....:(

there isn't a WHQL for Win7 is there??

I just installed 185.81 and now my right click on desktop is extremely slow. I only noticed this after the NV driver install. like when I right click on desktop.. it takes around 3 seconds to open. right clicking on icons on desktop, or taskbar are as quick as can be. but actual right click on desktop is dead slow. I go to refresh often. Personalize to change things and my wallpaper. and to enter the NV control panel. as I constantly change from SLI and not as I can't have SLI enabled while doing F@H.. so I go to right click on desktop often. and it's soooo slow it's irritating.

anyone else have this problem or is yours fast. I almost wanna try 181.71 and see if it fixes it.

Sounds as though the Windows 7 beta Nvidia drivers are still a bit buggy then? I mean it's to be expected, beta drivers on a beta OS. They'll get there. I guess I'll stick with the Vista64 Nvidia drivers for now.

Sven.. so you installed the Vista 64bit 182.50 WHQL on 7 and it works perfect with 2D downclocking. and the right click pause is gone??

I just want the pause gone, I can live with the no 2D

Edit* YUP the Vista x64 WHQL driver fixed it. Awesome. that was my biggest problem with 7 so far. and now it's fixed. Rep+ to you sir.

Performance wise in games, etc, the latest beta drivers are great. I'm willing to bet the right click on the desktop is related to the nVidia control panel and as long as games run like a champ I'll live with that until it's taken care of.

Interestingly enough the lag occurs on my SLI rig whereas my second machine with a single 7900GTX works just fine.

I went back from the win 7 beta driver to the Vista x64 182.50 and the right click works great. just like I said above in edit of post.

I see what you mean. games do run good. but they run just as well in the vista driver so I'm not worried about running a non win 7 driver for my GFX.. I'll wait for the next nvidia driver. a new one comes out every 3 weeks about. So I'm sure a new one is coming soon.

Thank you Grim for the heads up. Downloading now for my 2nd pc with 6200 A-LE. Can't wait to try H.A.W.X. on it like I did when you posted the beta a few weeks ago. It needs all the performance it can possibly get and NVidia seems to be making it better for me with each new install.
