the thing that gets me and what seems to be overlooked is that these cards--whenever they will be released--are NOT primarily graphics cards, but GPGPU cards. nVidia has acknowledged this from day one.
to further my point, nVidia DOES NOT have to make a part that is faster than ati's as far as graphics performance is concerned. they have to make a part that is on par with ati for graphics performance. remember, these are primarily GPGPU cards--so the area where these cards need to shine is GPGPU (duh!). they need their cards to blast ati when it comes to video, audio, and photo rendering/encoding (and other GPGPU related tasks). i believe i read that kaspersky (i think) had made their antivirus product to use GPU acceleration for the scans. obviously, any application that can be juiced up by use of the GPU is what nVidia is looking to blast ati out the water in.

i'm an ati guy (not fanboy)... nVidia has stated that their vision goes beyond just graphics. and think about it for a sec--for those who have very high end processors that can, say, knock out a kaspersky virus scan (using the example from above) in mere minutes, can have that time cut in half to two-thirds--who wouldn't want that? or a dvd rip and encode that would take 25 minutes total, cut in half to two-thirds.

i'm not jumping ship, just looking at the big(ger) picture. and as in my previous post, i'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon (maybe not until the radeon hd 6780--unless mine break first)

We want to apologize for the confusion around our most recent GF100 update. To clarify, the launch date for GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 is March 26, 2010. This date also coincides with the GeForce LAN event NVIDIA is hosting at PAX 2010. Hope you can attend the show. For more info, please visit: www.nvidia.com/paxeast
I'll emphasise the part that most interests me: To clarify, the launch date for GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 is March 26, 2010.

That's enough to keep me happy, despite the availability of them.
so if this is the launch..... when will we see any benchmarks?
    Any time after Cebit.

Or they simply might not send any reference cards out and just wait until release.

I wish these guys would start focusing on cutting power consumption and heat, modern graphics cards are already fast enough for a while now. Their weakness is not performance but the simple bloat of them.

ok now that would make me worry..... if they don't give out any until release.... they could be acting under the false pretense that it is faster than the competitors card and when people get sucked into buying they will find out its not....
