- run dxdiag, this will show the version number..

Radeon HD 4890 !-diag.jpg

- the 10.1 update of CCC will show DirectX as Version 11, and the 4890 is capable of using it..

DirectX has nothing to do with the version. Your card will use whatever the app is built for or if you adjust it - like Far Cry 2 in DirectX 10. Run Memtest86+, chkdsk and Prime 95 to determine if it is hardware. Defrag before running the hard disk check. You can also try Seagate Seatools.

And what ATI driver version are you using? Also in device manger do you have any problem devices, ones with yellow triangels next to them? For your BSOD's you could RAR and post your mini dump file so we could take a look at it also Thanks. Fabe

Upgraded from Radeon 4890 to GTX 560Ti and..
I did a clean install(Nvidia drivers that is, not Windows, and no I didn't use DriverSweeper, did it all manually, plus the new Nv driver install has a 'clean install' option, but I think it's only with regard to old 'Nvidia' stuff, not ATI/AMD etc etc), and as far as I know, removed 'all' ATI...
