Black Screen after installing ATI Catalyst Drivers

Hi, the first time I installed Windows 7 Professional (clean install, not upgrade) and installed the catalyst drivers for my HD5750 video card (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=win7/windows-7-64bit), everything worked fine. I ended up formatting my hard drive and doing a reinstall though (had a major compatibility issue with Anti-Virus software and Microsoft Office, so decided to format the hard drive and did a reinstall). After doing that, and installing the Catalyst driver, I'm having the following problem:

The install goes fine, the computer restarts, but when it boots up and windows starts, I have a black screen and nothing displays. My monitors' indicators also change from blue to amber (as if there is no computer turned on or connected to them). I've started the computer in safe mode, and the monitors work. I can then uninstall the driver, but then I can't extend my desktop using the standard VGA driver, or get the full resolution of my monitors (1400x900). It's pissing me off!

Somebody please help!! Below is my computer set up:

Case: Thermaltake M9 ATX VI1450BWS
Motherboard: EVGA X58 SLI LE ATX (model 141-BL-E757-TR)

Well, its not your monitor or your card, so is software - the drivers. Can you try a different set of Catalyst drivers?

Hi there.......try the 8.70 drivers.

do not use ''driver sweeper'' it corrupts GFX driver installs

do not install drivers in ''safe mode'', it simply will not work.

here's what i do with these rubbish drivers.

uninstall GFX driver via ''device manager''..... reboot

head back to desktop & allow windows to generically detect the card (do not install anything) once its detected..... reboot.

head back to the desktop & install the 8.70 Cat version.... reboot.

now upon entering desktop on this run you should be met with Aero & the monitors default res (on both)

this is the best way ive found to install Cat drivers. , if they still wont install we'll look at other possibilities.

lol......

i used to use it religiously, & couldn't understand why every ATI driver would corrupt itself upon install.

apparently driver sweeper enters the registry & deletes needed files for the Cat drivers to work, sure enough i stopped using it & they started installing

You can't convince the die harders of that. But this isn't the thread for that argument.

Re-emerging problem along with a known solution

I just did a clean install and then installed catalyst 12.4 with the same result.

Solution: boot safe mode, roll back drivers, reboot, install Catalyst SDK along with the new Catalyst drivers, because the SDK includes OpenCL.dll file installations that are necessary.

I had the same issue. The problem was a missing motherboard pci system managment driver. I used Driver Easy to find and install this driver becasue it is free and I did not have a motherboard disk but any driver detection software will work.
