GeForce GT 220 display periodically goes black

I'm running Windows 7 and connecting my 1GB GeForce GT 220's HDMI output to a HP w2207h HD monitor. There are times when my video display goes black for about 2 seconds and then returns. I notice it most in IE8 when using the mouse rollerball to scroll down a long web page. Another time it happens a lot is when I hover over the taskbar thumbnails and try to jump between applications. It will simply go completely black for about 2 seconds and then switch to selected application.

The behavior is very similar to my home entertainment system. I use my amplifier to switch between inputs that are all routed via HDMI to my HDTV. When I switch the input from my Blu-Ray DVD to my Cable TV, the screen goes black for a couple of seconds while it is switching.

The behavior in Windows 7 is similar. Could this be just a bad video card or maybe a HDMI issue or just something screwed up in Windows 7?

Any input I can get from you would be greatly appreciated.

    Thx

I can't give you an valid evaluation. It could be the source of my problem with the screen blacking out or it might be a Windows 7 issue or it could be a hdmi issue. I was hoping someone else might have experienced the same and then have some valuable input for me. All I can tell you was that it is priced right and the display is great - when it's not going black on me.

I'm having this same issue, down to the video card model and the OS. The monitor is a Hannspree HF207 and the HDMI cable is by Rosewill.

Hey blillard, if you're still having this problem, try changing your refresh rate.

    Refresh rate

I will try that. It's really odd, the problem seems to be worst after I reboot. After a couple of days of leaving the computer on, the problem goes away. I'll try changing the refresh rate. Thanks.

I think it has to do with the hdmi out of the gpu, I think it is firts checking for vga cables, then dvi and then hdmi, the black screen is what you see when its searching for its output device and I think it searches in the order above. I also think that their is a setting that you can change the will switch the "looking for output device" option so that it starts on hdmi.

You could very well be right about the searching. It certainly behaves that way. I'll see if there is a way to assign the output and eliminate the searching. Thx.
