    Monitor Help

Hey guys, sorry I'm not the best with computer and don't understand all the lingo, so this might take me a little while to learn.

But anyways I had windows vista premium 32 bit on my Sony Vaio VGN-AR670 laptop when i first bought 2 years ago. I recently decided to get Windows 7 64 bit, so I did the clean install. All of my drivers were gone, but I figured out how to get them back by using the DriverMax program. The only "issue" that I have left is my generic PnP monitor. My computer was reading standard graphics adapter before I got drivermax and now it says GeForce 8400m GT, which is correct. I know my monitor is LCD 17" WUXGA (XBRITE-HiColor™). My laptop is capable of 1080p HD. Yet my highest resolution available with the generic PnP monitor is just 1440x900. I feel like it was something like 1800x1200 before. I'm not quite sure what I'm asking exactly haha, but I just don't feel as if my monitor should say generic PnP.

    Welcome!

Have you tried updating your video card drivers? Go into Device Manager, right-click on your card, and select Update driver software.

    Good luck!

Yes, I tried that for both my monitor and my graphics card. No luck.

Here, try these drivers: NVIDIA DRIVERS 196.21 WHQL

Also, try messing with your refresh rate settings.

Hi shaddix and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

The following applies to the built-in monitor.

    Display
    Features X BRITE-ECO
    Widescreen Display Yes
    Max Resolution 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+ )
    Display Type 17" TFT
Information taken from Sony VGN-AR670 specs

If you are using an external monitor, what is its make and model number?
