am in extreme gaming? why are dual gpus are more prone to bugs? i just wanna play really high graphic games like crysis, stalker, hawk etc.. at max setting with no lagg and high resolution, whats with all the compatibility issues and stuff? where is it coming from?
what resolution will you be playing at..??

    what PSU do you have..??

what motherboard will the cards sit in..??

    what CPU do you have..??

your opening post has spawned questions, not answers....., please fill out your specs, otherwise its pointless us suggesting such high end solutions.

2x GTX295's draws SERIOUS power & gives off SERIOUS heat, & Quad SLI / Quad CFX scales pretty poorly as mentioned to you above..

the 5970's (if you can find them) will use far less power & give off far less heat, but drivers for this configuration are still far from where they should be..

running 2 of either card is really only for benching purposes, just one of these cards will max out ANY game currently out there (excluding the 295 from DX11) at ANY resolution..:)

so if its only gaming at high res your interested in one of these will be fine..

    Hey there,

GTX295 doesnt support DirectX11 whereas 5970 does. If you choose the GTX 295 then wait for the the GTX480/GTX 470 or go for 5970 if you need it now.

I too run dual 5970s. 5970 in quadfire run well together but there are limitations at the moment:

    1. If you plan on running a 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 res then it would be OVERKILL! You need to run these on a 2560x1600 res to get FULL benefit.

    2. Crysis runs like a dog on ANY spec machine. On very high settings with x8AA on a 2560x1600 res I get ~40fps. Other games run great!

    3. If you plan on using Eyefinity, you will be disappointed. At the moment, Eyefinity does not support quadfire setups (ie <5fps ave). ATI claimed support when they released Cat 9.12 hotfix but in reality that isnt the case. I have to disable quadfire to get Eyefinity running. This is a driver issue. When or IF ATI addresses this is anyone's guess.

    4. 3DMark on a single 5970 should give you ~P22000 and ~32000 in quadfire (depending on specs). IMO everyday performance is more important than benchmarking.

Dont get me wrong. 5970 in quadfire is a BEAST.

Just use it on a SINGLE 25060x1600 res.

    Good Luck.

    One card would suffice.

Two cards imo is overkill and can cause you more problems than it's worth.

By the way crysis still brings many systems to it's knees.

I would recommend you wait untill the new nvidia DirectX 11 cards come out then make a choice. And as you were told above 1 card is enough. For me I can run everything on full with no problem (except Crysis) and I have a GTX 285.

    o.o

am not gonna wait for nvidia they are taking to long, i wont take the chance of them holding back the release date as they did in 2009, what i herd its coming in late 2010 almost 2011 and i cant wait that long, am only going to be playing it at 1680X1020 its weak resolution but as long as the graphic is real high and it runs real smooth and its good enough for me, i dont need a 2550X1250 resolution screen thats an extra 1grand

    specs are

    Processor : intel i7 920 overclocked (3.2ghz 8mb cache)
    Memory : 6GB Ram Triple Channel 1333Mhz
    Hardrive : 1.2 Terabyte
    Power: 1.1k Power supply
Motherboard: unknown am buying it from alienware they dont show u it
and i want 2 gpus becuase i wont buy another pc for a while.

The 5970s are fully overclock-able to core-850mhz/mem-4.8ghz(and that's both GPUs per card). Check these newegg responses. If you have the money I'd go with these.

NOT ALIENWARE - they are overpriced - build it yourself - and @ 1680 x1050 a single 5870 is enough. You'll need to overclock the CPU to push it. If you are building the PC yourself, the PSU should be 750w, 80+, and modular. Find one with great reviews done with proper testing.
