    Hey there.

I know the decision is yours to make but seriously a 5970 quadfire does not do your planned 1680x1050 res justice!

A single 5970 will last you for a couple of years easily. Spend the money a higher res monitor.

Just my two cents. Either way, happy gaming.:)

    To reiterate:

Unless you are into benchmarking, stick with a single Dual GPU.

Particularly if you are only using a resolution of 1680x1050.

You'll need the right CPU to drive those cards, and @ 1680x1050, you won't appreciate or use them. CPU would have to be the equivalent of an AM3 Phenom II 965 @ 3.4GHz or higher.

You are going to spend about 2000 Dollars MORE, because you are buying from Alienware. I built my computer for just 2000 bucks, and im happy with it.
You don't know how to build the computer? Ask a friend for help, cause i mean, lets say that if you build the computer alone, you could buy a good monitor, and still have about 1500 in your bank account.

An unknown x58 chipset motherboard and an overclocked i7 920 @ 3.2 running with a res of 1680x1050
Will not give you any noticeable improvement/ 'future proofing'.

But it seems you have your heart set on it, we have offered several informed opinions as to why it's not the greatest idea - but go for it.

    It's your money mate.

a single 5870 will hold well at 1680 for quite some time; you would be throwing away money with anything more imho. I recommend you get a nice 30" monitor before thinking of anything more powerful
