Windows 7: Does this look like a faulty video card?

Got this corruption in my display after about 2-3 hours of MW2 last night. This is the worst it's been so far, started as missing or incorrectly colored textures, started getting video lag during that session last night and then what you see in the picture.



This seems to have started when I built my new system but I think that may be because the old one wasn't PCIe 2.0 so it never really stressed the card...

Looks like it is overheating might want to check the fan on the card and cooling on your system

Card was running at 52°C (using SpeedFan) when I quit. I use RIVATuner to run the fan at 100% since it had been going up to 79°C and I can tell it's spinning.

hm..... what is the temp during the gaming? and wow.... 79 is just a little toasty
if its at 52 and you used to get 79..... well.... it could have cooked itself

Are you overclocking the card or any other part of your system?

No OC'ing, on this system, the PCI-E 1.0 system I just upgraded from was OC'd ~8% for the CPU but I don't think that system really taxed the card.

If I drop to the desktop with the game running it only shows as high as 59°C when I use RIVATuner to boost the fan speed. EVGA's site actually says the operating range goes as high as 80°C.

I submitted a ticket to EVGA last night, they just replied and advised RMA based on my description and the image provided.

79c is well within the heat tolerance of the card. I had an XFX 9800gt that was running at about the same heat range. I put in a support ticket they responded it should start failing at 110c so it doesn't seem to be heat related although if your not sure you can take an ordinary house fan and blow it in the open side of the case to see if it makes a difference. How old is the card? I ask since out of all hardware GFX cards have a higher rate of failure. If it's any consolation my gt260 superclocked continually runs at 75-80c under intense long time gaming. Evga has great customer support so you will be happy with the RMA process. Good luck with it. Fabe

It's less than 1 year old. I was TWO days late registering it so I only get a 1 year warranty. Fortunately I got the card in late April last year so I'm still covered. Just waiting for them to approve the RMA, then I get to wait 2 weeks for them to get my card and ship me a replacement, I KNOW my 7800GT won't cut it for MW2, I'll have withdrawls...
