Windows 7: TV Output Problem

TV Output Problem

I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on an older computer I'd been using as a "media center" for my 42" widescreen television. Under XP Pro, the TV was recognized as a PnP Monitor using a VGA cable.

Under Windows 7, however, it seems that the TV will only work as a projector and nothing more. To get it to display I have to plug in my Acer desktop monitor and then set it up as dual screen.

If I start up Windows 7 using only the TV then the screen goes blank and "Not Support" starts to flash across the TV.

I am using a pretty old video card (Radeon 9600 Pro), but Windows 7 automatically installed drivers from less than a year ago. As this is now considered legacy hardware by ATI, this is as good as it's going to get.

Anyone have any suggestions, solutions, or workarounds? I'm currently building a shortcut to the Display Switcher with a parameter to use the external display. I'm going to put this is the startup folder and hope for the best.

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ @ 2.004 GHz

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro

Welcome to seven forums we really could use your motherboard manufacturer, As you pointed out the card has been demoted so to speak to legacy drivers. What driver are you using? Here is a link to the 9.11 driver but their is also a 9.12 hot fix available ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver You can try installing this by following the information on this thread Install AGP Drivers for HD 3850, 3650, 2400 PRO Here is the link o the 9.12 hotfix driver GPU42ATICatalyst9.12Hotfix Please post back and we'll see where were at. Thank you for the quick replies.

Pertaining to the legacy drivers from the ATI website, I installed those earlier and it caused horrible pixelation on both the Acer monitor and the TV. I had to restart in safe mode and roll back the drivers to the W7 defaults.

As for my current drivers, I can't look them up right now since I'm at work, but I remember they were dated from April 2009.

The good news is that the problem seems to have resolved itself after juggling the displays around for awhile.

I also went into the Catalyst Control Center and lowered the TV's refresh rate to 60 and checked the "Force Computer to Recognize TV" box. After that I changed the TV to my default monitor and it seemed to work. W7 now recognizes the TV as a "Nonstandard PnP Monitor" rather than an "LCD Monitor". So the drivers from ATI didn't work but the software seemed to help a great deal, especially in creating the ideal resolution. Everything is currently running smooth but it took me half the night to get there.
