XFX HD5850 Running XFX HD5870 Bios!

Just wanted to share this as anybody with the same card might want to try it. Got bored of manually overclocking my XFX HD 5850, wanted a permanent stable overclock. I flashed to the XFX HD5870 bios and it works perfect! Low temps and a massive jump in performance! Crysis runs about 10 fps faster than before and in benchmarks I am scoring alongside the genuine HD 5870's

My HD 5850 now gets 7.8 in windows 7 wei

Very happy with this new bios my card is running much better than before lol, Highly recommend any HD 5850 user to flash as your basically getting HD 5870 performance without having to pay the extra...

Which version bios/where did you get the new one ?
What tool did you use ?
Do you have a default xfx 5850 bios in-case something goes wrong ?

I am in the process of doing mine, thank you.

btw, and I can't believe I forgot to say this, but this could render your card one very expensive brick. Also, while you may be able to flash the bios, you're not going to be able to provide the 8 pin pci-e connector the 5870's use.

lemme know how things go and with what games you're testing.

I would also add that though the benefits are there now....over the long haul this could prove fatal for the card. I did some "unauthorized" BIOS flashes on an ATI 3870 a few years back, and though the card ran fine, in the long run it wound up overheating from the stress of the BIOS and had to be replaced.

    Just something to think about.
