    ati radeon 8500 driver

Hi all. Just installed windows 7. Can't get proper resolution on monitor. I believe it is because i don't have the proper driver for my ati radeon 8500. I have searched and i think that there isn't one but some have said they found something that worked. Can anyone help me out??

    Thanks

There are no official 8500 Windows 7 drivers.

The 6.11 driver is the last driver made that supports the 8500 and any card prior to R300 (9700).

Are there any "unofficial" drivers that work?

I tried the 6.11 driver but it just made problems. The screen went black and flashing on restart. Un-useable. Had to restart in safe mode and roll back to standard vga.
Well this sucks. You mean i can't use windows 7 cause of my fricken video card!!! That's just BS!!
Best i can get is 1280x1024. Can't stay like this. Back to xp sp3 i guess!! F%^K!!!

Dude, your video card is like ten years old. What did you expect?

I know it is old but my computer is capable of running 7 and so is this video card. I am not much of a gamer and just want a good display. It seems to me this video card is totally capable but nobody bothered to write a driver! I just want a good display without breaking the bank. Is rolling back to xp the only way???

Unless you know how to program your own drivers, or someone out there who wasn't willing to spend $50 on a new card did, then yes.

your card just won't cut it as you need 128 MB of graphics memory plus WDDM support for all versions and directX 9 minimum

    your card has 64mb and Supports Microsoft® DirectX® 8.1

surely buy a cheap card for $30 ish would be easier
