ATI HD5770 Problem With Acer 23" Monitor Hello,
I got my new graphics card yesterday, an HD 5770. My previous card was a HD4870.
I did not upgrade, my card's fan failed so they sent me a new card, but to my surprise it was a new model, but that is a story for another thread.
So happy as I am I installed the new card and behold, I cannot run my screen at 1920*1080. Don't know how to describe this but my screen is smaller, and centered.
It is like watching a movie with dimensions that your screen does not support, a black strip is present at the top and bottom of the screen. Only in my case the black strips are top bottom left and right.
Currently I'm running my screen at 1440*900, the only resolution where my screen is displayed "full screen".
If you don't understand ask me and I'll try to explain better, I will even take a photo and post it.
What can be the problem? Do I have to get a new monitor or what?
Thanks!

Saidar, welcome to the forums.
First thing to ask, did you remember to uninstall the video driver and CCC before installing the new card, and then install the driver again? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Win 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Phenom II x4 955 @ 4 GHz. Hey,
Yes I did, uninstalled all ATI software before installing new drivers. Maybe I should uninstall restart and try again?

Ok it is not a driver issue, in fact when my PC boots up, before loading windows the same effect is present, with black strips on all 4 sides of my screen.
Maybe I should buy an HDMI cable, can the type of connection cause a problem like this? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU AMD Phenom 9850 Motherboard Asus Memory 4gb DDR2 800 Graphics Card ATI HD 5770 Sound Card Creative Xi-Fi Monitor(s) Displays Acer V233H 23" Screen Resolution 1920*1080 |

as neither has a HDMI port. How is it connected now, VGA or DVI? Also does it show up as an Acer in Device Manager or is it showing as either "plug and play monitor" or "non-plug and play monitor? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Win 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Phenom II x4 955 @ 4 GHz. I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable at the moment. That is why I thought maybe a HDMI to HDMI would work better, as the new graphics card has an HDMI port.
My monitor is showing up as Acer V233H | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU AMD Phenom 9850 Motherboard Asus Memory 4gb DDR2 800 Graphics Card ATI HD 5770 Sound Card Creative Xi-Fi Monitor(s) Displays Acer V233H 23" Screen Resolution 1920*1080 |

Try it with just a plain old DVI cable. Also, Quote: That is why I thought maybe a HDMI to HDMI would work better not going to work unless the monitor has a HDMI port as well, and from what I can see your monitor doesn't. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Win 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Phenom II x4 955 @ 4 GHz. Use an HDMI cable that is Version 1.3a at a minimum and install the latest Catalyst drivers. Uninstall the old drivers first via the installer, then reboot and use Driver Sweeper to clean up, then rerun the installer. Finally, force the right resolution in desktops and displays. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio Z46GDU OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86-64 CPU P9700@2.8GHz 1066MHz FSB Motherboard Sony branded Memory 6GB DDR3 1066MHz Graphics Card 9300M GS 256MB Dedicated (Speed) + Intel4500MHD (Stamina) Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays 13.1' WXGA Screen Resolution 1600x900 Hard Drives 320GB 7200RPM w/ 16MB cache Internet Speed 1MB/s |
