If I were going to, I wouldn't get anything less than this for what it sounds like you're into.

that card is overkill for his system for what he is doing at the moment.
Premiere CS5 has GPU Accelerated Encoding but I am not sure when that will come out.
The 9600GT is perfectly fine for what he is doing.

Is that neck brace a prop or did he get in a car accident?
You guys don't hook a recorder to the mixing console?

In addition to my premier production pro cs-4 I am running Matrox video editing software RT-X2. It does a great job of integrating the Adobe suite of programs seamlessly and allows me to combine hi def footage with sd stuff without too much hassle, I don't think it has any impact on what we're discussing but I thought I'd throw it out there.

spazmatics audio really blows, usually i have a 24 trac rig for audio, (check out the claude von trotha vids for example) the spaz gig was last minute and no board feed was available on short notice. neck brace is a prop

The Matrox may be the issue.
We are still using XP on our RT-X2 system but that system has CS3 on it. I didn't know they had an update for Win 7 64bit for the Matrox.
I built ours using the component list of one of their test builds 2-3 years ago.

Try starting a non Matrox project and see if you have the same issue ( I can't remember if the Matrox logo will start up regardless of the project you start)
