Win7 thinks my 22" monitor is 17"! Resolution Probs!

Guys,

I recently purchased a new Windows 7 HP computer and intended to use my Acer AL2216W (22" widescreen) monitor with it. The monitor worked fine on my XP PC, at it's native 1680x1050 res. Now i get this new Windows 7 PC and it can't figure out the resolution.. It's not offering me the 1680x1050, the closest i can get is 1600x1200.... THe PC didn't come with a graphics crad, it's just using onboard intel graphics, however, since this monitor is having probs i've hooked up my wife's monitor, which is an acerx213h (native res 1920x1280) and it works fine and when that monitor is hooked up, Windows 7 even gives me the 1680x1050 option, although that looks funny on that monitor.

when i right click and do the screen resolution change thing, the control panel says my display is a 17" LCD Monitor when the 22" Acer AL2216W is hooked up...

i've downloaded the drivers, and when i have the 2216W hooked up, and i right click on my PC to manage it the device manager properly IDs each montior correctly (AL2216W and X213H)... Any tips here??

i'm using the VGA connectors, not the DVI.

thanks!

yes i have updated the PC with the new monitor drivers, that's how it can recognize each of the different types of the ACER monitors when i connect them (one at a time of course with the VGA cables). The PC is an HP Slimline s5370t. It has onboard graphics, so there is no update to that, at least, not when i do the "update driver" search and clearly the drivers are capable as is of displaying the resolution fine, as it works well on the X213H monitor, just not the AL2216W one.

Try updating the Intel HD drivers 15.17.1.2086 (8.15.10.2086) 4th March 2010

For Win7x86
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18801&lang=eng

or Win7x64
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3231&DwnldID=18804&lang=eng

Update to this. Using the Device Manager to search for updated drivers only searches Windows Update and not Intel.

This problem was never resolved. So for anybody out there, who stumbles into this post, note that the Acer AL2216W is not compatible with Windows 7. As far as I, or anybody on these boards can say.

@thunderdogg

Try Installing the Monitor drivers.
Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Monitor, Acer AL 2216

This driver tells the intel display drivers the max mode1 res and also includes it's color profile.

(i think you already tried this - are you sure it was this Monitor Driver that I have linked to)
