Problems with Intel 945GM onboard graphics 1680x1050

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6400 with integrated Intel 945GM graphics. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 build 7077. On Screen Resolution, the only option is "Generic PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter," and the display only goes up to 1400x1050. Previously both XP and Vista ran fine at 1680x1050. I've tried using both the Dell drivers and the Intel drivers, as well as changing the compatibility mode for the drivers, and it just says that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installling this software.

Anyone have any advice on how to get 1680x1050 working??

OK I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded those drivers, but I'm not sure if they are the correct raw or inf drivers. I then attempted to do exactly what you said and went to device manager and tried to manually update the drivers, but it's informing me that the best most up to date drivers are already installed. Am I going about this correctly??

OK, got a little further, thanks for clarifying that, and just when I think everything is going to work I come to this screen

Also, one more thing, I'm running a 64-bit version of Windows 7. Turns out I have an x86 based processor, but it's an Intel Core 2 T7200, which is a 64-bit processor, so it should work with the 64 bit drivers. I extracted all of them and the .inf file but I am still getting the above error. So close...

I've downloaded both the AMD64 and x86 drivers both, and have tried it with both of them so far. Will go over it once again.

Wow, ok just out of curiosity I checked out the original system configuration...turns out I do not have on-board graphics, but and M54 I6400 card, which I think is an ATI M54 x1400 with 256mb. So it looks like I have been going about this all wrong unfortunately Thank you for your help and patience so far, I have tried downloading the latest ATI Catalyst 9.4 but once again without success. I guess I will try to manually update the driver with those.

Hello all, sorry if the thread is a bit old but I really need help with this issue.

I have installed W7 for about a month and a half now and it was working flawlessly on my laptop. I use a 20" LG on my laptop as the main display not the toshiba screen which is off 99% of the time.
since yesterday I was able to have a full 1680x1050 resolution in the screen resolution setup without problems.

Yesterday I received a windows update it was the intel Display driver 15.1275 (released in june) why was that detected only yesterday is a mystery to me...
now I don't seem to be able to properly set up the resolution to 1680x1050. If I use the W7 screen resolution config panel I get black borders on each side of the screen ( it looks like 4:3 when it should be 16:9). If I decide to change the resolution on the Intel graphics media accelerator driver setting when I select 1680x1050 / 60 hz, my Lg screen blacks out and gives me an "out of range 83.7 KHz / 60Hz" and remaiins blank. I read somewhere that LG screens only get 83Khz and .7 makes a huge difference so I should be choosing 59Hz for it to work. Now I CANNOT select 59Hz at 1680x1050 it gives me the option of 60Hz only.

I've tried using DTD calculator to change my EDID in my registry. Problem is the Raw EDID that the intel driver information gives me is the one of my laptop monitor not the one from my LG screen.... so still a dead end.... I've tried unistalling the intel drivers and use the standard Display drivers in W7 but again 1680x1050 goes totaly out of the screen as I can't see the left portion of the screen. Please note that I have use the "auto adjust" after each screen resolution change without success...

So now I would Like to know if anyone has an Idea on what to do .... any guideline or tip will be extremely apreciated.....
