Windows 7: ATI Graphics & Windows 7 Help Please

Hi,
I own an Hp e9120y desktop which came installed with Vista. Graphics card on this desktop came with an ATI radeon HD 4350. This graphics card worked great for several months with windows vista. I decided to upgrade to windows 7 and the fan on the graphics card stopped working. I have tried to reinstall drivers both from ATI's website and from Hp's website, both to no success. I am curious to know if its a hardware malfunction or something fixable. Any advice is much appreciated!!

Have you visually checked that there is not a foreign object blocking the fan from spinning, most likely dust?

Are you still able to get a signal from the card to your monitor?

Welcome to Seven Forums. When you say you tried to install the ATI driver from both sites with no success. Are you saying the driver didn't install correctly or it didn't fix the fan issue? Also please fill in your system specs including 32 or 64 bit Win 7, This will help us with finding the correct driver for your product. If your not able to get the ATi driver to install are you getting any kind of error message? I use Nvidia so correct me if I'm wrong but if you also install the CCC application I think their is a fan speed controller in it. It isn't unheard of a fan failing but it would seem something else might be going on. Did you do an upgrade install or a clean install of Seven? Thanks. Fabe

To piggyback on The Fabe: Yes, CCC does have a fan speed controller for the card. However, it depends upon the card--CCC may have fan speed disabled depending upon the card. A lower model card may have the fan speed control disabled.

Did you run windows 7 advisor first for any issues before the upgrade?

Try this; shut off PC, then pull the card and reboot. Let the onboard graphics take over. Once that is done shut off PC and reinstall card and turn PC on. Then go to website and download latest driver and software suite and install both.

Hmmm....this sounds more like a hardware issue. Even without drivers installed, the fan would still work. If the OP is getting a video signal than the PCI slot is working. It sounds like the fan either stopped working or is running extremely low.

OP, did you physically check to see if the fan is running?

BTW I am an ATI user - Radeon HD4890

PS - The Catalyst Drivers, including the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is compatible with Windows 7 32/64-bit.
