Resolution Roadblock

I have an HP Pavilion m7750n computer that's almost 4 years old. The HP flat panel display died recently and I replaced it with my Maxtech XT 7861 (circa 1997). The monitor owner's manual states a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 @60Hz. However the nVidia GeForce 6150 LE driver says it has a maximum 1280 x 960 mode. I tried creating a custom resolution but the driver refuses to accept 1280 x 1024.

Is there a Windows 7 video driver that will let me use all the available landscape of my 13 year old monitor.

Thanks. I had already found the new nVidia driver. But I also just tried the Modder but it did not seem to change anything. The max resolution was still 1280 x 960. I then decided to uninstall the nVidia driver, reboot and do a clean install. When I rebooted the default VGA windows driver on a non-PnP display was in charge and it listed 1280 x 1024 so I tried it and it works! Reinstalled the nVidia drivers and got kicked back to 1280 x 960 with a warning that my monitor did not support any higher. If I uninstall the nVidia driver, how do I purge the leftover settings so it is forced to start with a clean slate and at least accept the chosen display setting in use when it is installed.

Seems to me several years ago I used a utility that allowed you to test various display modes and adjust the driver menu to add modes that worked but were not listed in the menu. You had to be careful and go up one step at a time to minimize the chances of killing your monitor. Does anyone remember where it came from and is it still available?

I'm not sure what I did that worked. I uninstalled the device driver, rebooted and interupted Windows downloading the new driver. Then Windows 7 proceeded to install a driver for Generic non-PnP monitors (my Maxtech XT 7861 is PnP) and once again advised a reboot was needed. Upon rebooting my choices now range all the way up to 1600x1200, although I know the monitor will only support up to 1280x1024. The nVidia GeForce 6150 LE display adapter is still listed in the device manager but the nVidia Control Panel is not shown when I right click the desktop. I have to be careful not to let Windows detect the monitor. The last time I tried that it switched me back to the Generic PnP monitor driver and capped me at 1280x960.
