Just reinstalled Windows 7 without graphics drivers?

Does Windows 7 have it's own drivers for graphics cards? I have the GTX 285 and I just re installed Windows 7 , the Home Edition, but I didn't install the graphics drivers for my EVGA GTX 285 just yet. Strangly I am able to play Armed Assault 2. I wonder if since lately I have been playing ArmA2 and the graphics , according to others, should be brilliant, yet they seem kinda shabby. I wonder if the card is even using the drivers I installed before or just some other drivers. can anyone explain this?

    Hi.

Can you explain what you mean that you haven't updated your drivers, but have yet have actually installed some?

Oh, what I meant was , in the previous instalation, which was Windows 7 RC1 7100, I was running the game with the video card in plus the drivers that came with it. I still had shabby performance though it was way better than the last system I ran but, the game performance is the same now as it was before I installed Windows 7 Home. I now have a Quad Core 2 Intel. As of now I have not yet installed the graphics drivers for my GTX 285 and I am able to play ArmA2 with no problems, well, some slight performance drags though. From what I have heard, my system should run the game with awesome FPS performance.

So no, I have not installed any drivers yet from the CD or downloads, for my graphics card. But strangly I can run games.

The fact that you're having issues would suggest it would be wise to update them wouldn't you think?

    *sigh*

I am not having issues. What I am trying to explain is, does Windows 7 have drivers of its own that can run a graphics card WHEN a graphics card is present but DOES NOT have the drivers installed for THAT particular graphics card? Because if that is so then my graphics card is not working at all or it is configured wrong. I have the GTX 285 in but I DO NOT have any drivers installed from the CD BUT, the interesting thing is is that I am able to play ArmA2 without any drivers installed. I am going to check if I can play Armericas Army 3 without drivers as well.

Yes, W7 will install video drivers. It will be either the generic WDDM1.1 driver required to run Areo, or it will be a driver found for your card on Windows Update.

Also, I believe, that if you do not delete the driver folder on C:\ (ie: the nVidia folder) the OS will find those drivers and re-install them. You should delete or move this folder before installing new drivers.

And go to nVidia's website to download the newest driver for the GTX (197.13). The drivers on the CD are ancient I guarantee you. For best performance you should remove all video drivers and driver apps using "Remove Programs" and restart before installing the newest drivers you want. Never install new drivers over old ones. When you are back on the desktop W7 will install the generic driver and ask you to restart again. You must do this before you can install the nVidia download.

I took that as being an "issue".

Depends on the card really. It will install a driver so your display will function, so Windows lists mine as a standard vga when I installed it, and it's not until I install the NVIDIA that it shows as a 8600M GS.

    What driver is being used?
