Windows 7: Windows 7 Display Problem

Windows 7 Display Problem

I wasn't sure where else to put this, so I decided to ask for help in the Graphics Card are as my problem probably pertains to my graphics card.

I recently installed Windows 7 and it went through without a hitch, except for some reason whenever I unplug my laptop from a power source the display becomes all screwed up; the gamma skyrockets and it looks like one big threshold effect.

Any ideas about what's wrong here? My monitor is an Intel(R) 915GM/GMS.910GML Express Chipset. I have the Intel Video Bios installed, and my total available graphics memory is 96 MB. I'm running on a 32 bit display at 1280 x 800 resolution.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I've not had a 910/915 to test on recently but I know for a fact that the video driver and perhaps even the display subsystem in old builds of Windows 7 would not run properly with Intel's drivers installed AND graphics chipset power saving. If you're not running RC load it clean and do NOT install any garbage drivers from Intel. Last I looked they had no drivers for Windows 7 on their web site. If you need to get drivers from anywhere get them ONLY from Microsoft here: How to download updates that include drivers and hotfixes from the Windows Update Catalog. You're virtually always better off getting your drivers here anyway as Microsoft deletes all the vendor bloat and leaves only the code required to run the device.

Were you able to resolve this problem in any way? I installed Windows 7 RC1 on my HP Elitebook 6910p and I am having the same problems with Any intel drivers I use.

Unfortunately, it's not really something that I can solve. The power saving features of the Intel driver set for 910/915 appear to be incompatible with Windows 7 when video acceleration is enabled. I heard that these drivers will help with hangs and crashes when playing video at least on some ASUS netbooks. Perhaps give them a try? http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/561353/rpeterslll.zip

I had a similar problem with my GM45 graphics chipset... but my screen started showing artifacts after about 15 minutes of uptime. Reboot cleared it, but it comes back. The WDDM1.1 drivers were just as bad.

I suggest you try the Vista drivers for it, this may or may not work. Seems like the Intel graphics are suffering a fair bit with Windows7...

I had some weird artifacting with the 965 architecture, but the Vista drivers fixed the issue... It would be nice if Intel decided to get on the ball with Windows 7 WHQL drivers... Some 1.1 drivers would be dandy.

Thanks for this. I read this.. I've had it on battery before, but never booted up from battery before and 90 % WHITE. Very annoying. Hope Intel has a fix for this. I'd been running Windows 7 RC1 on my moms puter with a spare hard drive and it has an intel based graphics card. Ran fine until I asked if my brother wanted to check it out. and thats what he got. Turned it on from battery. What exactly is the probelm there. That I have to power it from a power source first then detached from the power in the middle of it.
