Reinstall DX9. from the link provided here,Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime
Reboot and see if the game starts. Something may be wonky with your DX9 install.
    Also remember 7 doesn't ship with DX9.
I get an error when I try to run dxwebsetup.exe. Am I doing something wrong?

This is what is in my DXError.log

I downloaded the file and it ran ok.

Unfortunately it made no difference, the game still has the exact same problem!

Hmmm. that has me stumped. I assume that you have gone to the games
web site/ forums and no help was available.
Really sounded like a DX problem to me, but could just
be an incompatibility with 7 or your onboard graphics etc.
If you find a solution please post it here to help others.
    Edit
I suppose you could try updateing all your drivers
    and see if that helps.
    Sorry.

Another thing you can try, A while back ,when I switched from XP to Vista.
I Had a game that did the same thing as yours and it turned out that my
install was missing a DLL. I emailed MS support and they were able to
supply me with a download to rectify the problem.
Can't hurt to try. Good luck.

I started windows in safe mode and I get the following error message for CM2008:

Direct 3D failed to initialise please ensure that you have a direct 3D compatible card and driver

    GetDeviceCaps() failed

Does this help solve the problem?

After many hours of frustration, updating drivers, extensive forum searches (not just this one) I eventually got the game to work. As always the solution was a simple one.

As the game plays in full screen mode I was having to literally pull the plug on the pc every time I tried to run the game. As it would just freeze up

So I did a search on how to open a game in a window and pulled up a forum question on a totally unrelated game that suggested that you change a config file in your "My Documents" folder.

Sure enough there was a config file that allowed me to do just that and guess what? I have been playing the game ever since.

The other disappointing thing about all this was that EIDOS customer support just fobbed me off with the Pontius Pilate routine.

I would like to thank everyone that replied and tried to help. Keep up the good work.

    Kind Regards
    B.
