DVI-I Out to TV
Hi, wasn't sure where to post so thought I'd whack it in here!
Basically I used to have my laptop hooked up to my HDTV via a DVI out to HDMI with no problems whatsoever. I broke the cable so didn't bother replacing it, but I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 32bit and purchased a DVI-I out to Component IN and struggling to get it to work.
When I plug it in, my laptop resolution will change and my TV seems to pick up the signal, it just flashes blue, black and the occasional distorted image of my laptop.
I've tried playin around with different resolutions and refresh rates, updated all my graphic card driver but all to no avail. Anyone shed some light?
Cheers,
Ashley

I have used DVI to HDMI adapters successfully since the signals are naturally compatible. The DVI to component adapters I've seen are for certain ATI video cards or chips. They do not seem to be universal. So why did you not buy another DVI to HDMI cable that you know worked?

Well I bought a DVI-D to HDMI but it didn't work, will it HAVE to be DVI-I to HDMI to work?

I don't know a precise answer to your question. Maybe I got lucky when I bought the cables I've used, as they all worked as expected. Here is a reference to DVI connections that might shed some light on your issue:
