Aero Disabled - 3 Monitor Setup

I'm stumped and spent the entire night trying to resolve the following issue:

    Video Card 1: PCI-E 9800GTX+
    Video Card 2: PCI 8400GS
    6 GB Ram
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    Monitors: 2 x 22 inch LCD and 1 x 42 inch HDTV

Both cards are WDDM 1.1 and DX10

I picked up a PCI video card to add to my existing PCI-E to enable my HDTV as a 3rd monitior. Drivers installed fine, both cards recognized, but Aero is automatically disabled any time 3 monitors are plugged in (all DVI).

The popup "The color scheme has been changed to Windows Basic - The current color scheme has exceeded its allowed memory so the color scheme has been automatically changed to improve performance. Click to see more information." switches the theme back to basic. I've run the Aero Troubleshooter which says each time that WDM is disabled, when it actually IS ENABLED and Started in the services.

I tried disabling notifications of popups, tried turning off the setting that allows windows to adjust which settings to use automatically, I tried the well known registry tweak to prevent windows from switching the theme but it continues to act up. I've reinstalled different drivers by wiping out old ones.... I tried the BIOS for changes and nothing..... Yet when I unplug any of the 3 monitors... the other 2 are fine and Aero works.

Your help is greatly appreciated, I'm tired and frustrated!

go to start and type in the following

    troubleshooting

click the one that says it

then go on that and find

    appearance and personalization

then under that in blue should say display aero desktop affects click that then go through the wizard and that will fix your problem.

hope helped Reputation point will do in return

Thanks for the reply but that didn't help. In my thread I mentioned I ran the troubleshooter. Windows will not hold onto Aero for more than a few seconds.

To solve the issue temporarily, I purchased an EVGA UV+ usb vid adaptor which is working great. I'm shocked on how well this thing handles intensive tasks such as High Def video etc.

It has to be a driver compatibility issue with Windows--regardless of the vendor.

I had commented on this in another thread--with a slightly different problem. I have Aero transparency, but have lost the Live Thumbnails. I have an Eyefinity setup with 3 monitors. However, prior to getting the third monitor, when using Eyefinity I had full transparency and Live Thumbnails on the two monitors. As soon as I added the third monitor, I lost Live Thumbnails.

I brought a New WD raptor for my primary HDD - so I reinstalled Win 7 pro x64 and problem is gone. Whatever it was it was windows for sure, I'm using the same drivers and cards now for 7 hours and counting without a fail. Thanks for your reply!
