    HP 6715b (ATI x1250) Resolution

    Hiya,

A friend has an HP 6715b laptop which i've just upgraded to Win 7 Pro (for business use). I have downloaded and installed the latest video card drivers (the full install of Catalyst) from HP's website but when running at 1440x900 I get a 1 inch black border all the round.

If I max out the resolution it's fine, but it's too small for her to read at that res.

Note this didn't exist with Vista Business.

    Thanks

Simple solution (from HP tech support)

Since installing Windows 7 on my HP 6715b with ATI Radeon X1250 display driver I had the same problem: Setting a lower screen resolution just results in a small display in the middle of the screen with black borders.

However after a few email exchanges with HP's tech support people I got a very simple solution:

    1. Adjust Screen Resolution right down to 800 x 600
    2. Open up Catalyst Control Centre (CCC) and go to basic view
    3. Under the Quick Settings Tab select Notebook Panel Properties
    4. Select the option to resize the desktop to fit the display panel

At this point my screen resized so that the entire laptop panel was filled with the display at 800x600 resolution. I closed the control centre and then selected a larger screen resolution. The system automatically filled the screen right up with that resolution.

(Needless to say I had first downloaded all the very latest drivers from the HP site)

Aside: When I bought my laptop I was advised to buy HP - not for the spec of their hardware but the quality of their support. This has been proven right on three occasions now, each of which when I had drawn a blank even from the best of the forums.
