ATI cards and Samsung LCD

Hello Everybody,
i just installed the latest build of Windows 7 (build 7100). and there are a few problems with my graphics options. There are 2 systems that i tried this on and both are having the same problem. The first setup has a Ati Radeon X1650 by MSI, and the drivers install, signed by WDDM. Now the monitor/tv that i am using is a 42inch LCD TV, and has the 1920x1080 resolution, that is its native resolution. Windows 7, supports the resolution and has it as the recommended resolution, however, when i select it, my monitor says "mode not supported" this is the same problem i have with the HD2600XT card from ATI.

Both of these cards work in Vista Ultimate, Vista Home Premium, Vista Business, and XP Pro SP3 and XP Home SP3, and even tried Server 2008 and server 2003. all of those OS's work with the native resolution on the monitor except the Windows 7 builds. anyone have an idea why this would be??

also, for the HD2600XT i did install the latest ati driver 9-4, and nothing is fixed. right now i am running it at 1280x768, but its skewed.

if anyone has any info on this it would be great, as i have tried everything.
i have also tried installing the 9-3 drivers on both cards, manually and using the installs. the manual way was to unzip the driver package and in device manager install the drivers myself.

The one system i have plugged into it now is a Shuttle Barebone SG31G2B, 4 GB of ddr2/800 ram, quad core q6600 2.4ghz, and the hd 2600xt..

I have same problem with ATI card and Windows 7 RC. My TV says mode not supported before Windows 7 RC installation completes. When I switch to 19" computer monitor resolution of the screen is correct 1920x1080 however refresh rate shows 61!!!! I think this is what my tv doesn't like and refuses to display the picture. I used my computer in current configuration with Win XP Pro, Vista and Windows 7 Beta with no problems. There must be a bug in RC that's causing it.

Hey rbebenek, I was/am having the same problem as you, I did find a temporary fix though if you want to try it out. Firstly though are you able to run 1600x1200 on your tv or does that also say "mode not supported"?

Install cat 9.1 for the x1650.

I have the same problem. I have a Samsung 40' LCD 1080p TV I use as a monitor. In Windows XP Professional 64 Bit and Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit I can run at 1920 x 1080 via the VGA output. I can not do so in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. The best I can get is 1600 x 1200. However, if I use the HDMI connection, I can get 1920 x 1080 but the picture is same what grainy. Turning off Cleartype does provide some marginal improvement. I don't want to use the HDMI because power management will not put the monitor / TV to sleep when doing so.

On a completely unrelated issue, anyone having problems with slow network connectivity under Windows 7 might want to turn off QoS. It really helped for me.

I am having the same problem. I was running Windows XP with everyone working fine, resolution outputting at 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz. I upgraded to Windows 7 yesterday and have not been able to get it to output at 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz. I have an Ati Radeon 4830.

Again, everything worked fine in Windows XP but Windows 7 won't let me output at 1080... Any help or suggestions would be great!

The only way to get it to go to 1920x1080 is to use a HDMI. The problem is that power management does not function correctly when doing so. A buddy of mine recently talked to Samsung who said that you are not supposed to have this problem if you go from HDMI to HDMI rather than from DVI to HDMI. I can not verify this last statement.

My memory is not the best but, I could swear when I hooked up my laptop's HDMI to my 58" Samsung plasma TV HDMI I did not have that problem.

I can tell you that if using DVI to HDMI, the monitor will go blank when power management kicks in and the TV seems to loose its signal completely. A PC reboot is required to get it back.

i guess i'm really lucky with my hd4890 and samsung 2494hs - 1920x1080 works fine with dvi, with no messing around - i haven't needed to try any of the other outputs...
