Video Drivers Seems To Change After Booting

I have an older video card that doesn't have drivers for Win7 so Windows installed a driver that works. The problem I have is the resolution only goes up to 1024x768 and I like a much higher res. While trying to find a driver that would work better for me I noticed that if I uninstall the video driver, reboot, then go to change the resolution that I have the option to set it up to 1280x1024 which works great. I can go for days with no issues but as soon as I reboot it reverts back to only letting me set the resolution to 1024x768 again. I have to go thought the whole process again on uninstalling the driver, reboot etc.

I could understand if I could never get higher than 1024x768 with this card this inconsistency is driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

This the 9400 GT in your specs or another card? If it is the 9400 GT then the drivers directly from Nvidia should work no problem, unless there is something wrong with the card.

Sorry, I forgot that this is a different, older PC than the one in my profile. It's setup with Windows 7 32bit. The video card is a Diamond Stealth S120 and they don't have any Win7 drivers for it. I tried drivers for the Vista 32 but they didn't work.

A quick search using that model name comes up with it being one of two cards,

If it is the first, the legacy Vista driver directly from ATI should work. If it is the second do a search of the forum looking for 9250 or 9200 to see what others with this card have managed to do to get it to work with Windows 7.

GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility

and where it shows GPU, it should show which of the above it is.
