I really don't think this is a software problem alabam. If the boot screen is messed up, you're looking at a possible hardware problem. The BIOS might be corrupted, or the motherboard might be flaky. It could be a lot of things.

Is this thing still under warranty? If it is, you might want to think about having someone look at it. Just my $.02, but I don't think doing a recovery will help at this point.

Windows 7 is in beta stage at the moment, so the sort of problem you describe is what you should be feeding back to Microsoft. That's the point of installing beta software - to iron out the bugs and problems.

The last driver update for that video card was over 2 years ago, so it's highly probable that the card isn't compatible with Win7, so it loads the VGA driver. The only way around it is to fit a compatible video card, which I guess would be a PCI Express rather than an AGP, so if you don't have a PCI Express slot, you are stuck with what you see.

Bear in mind that each time MS releases a new OS, manufacturers have to play catch up for some time, rewriting drivers and developing new compatible products, and as the retail release isn't due till January 2010, you may have a long wait.

Sorry, Windows 7 is in beta? Not my copy.

This is 2010, and it's already June. Are you sure you're posting in the right thread?

Not sure on the exact function key but try F11 during POST to access the recovery partition.
Have to agree with Mellon Head thought that you should first try to isolate if it is a hardware issue - the best way that this could be done is to borrow monitor from a friend or a neighbor to see whether the problem remains.

Keep us posted on your progress
