    Games not playing on full screen


    Hi,

    My previous operating system (Vista Home Premium) crashed and I lost everything. I also misplaced the installation disc so I just decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything works fine aside from the games don't accommodate the full desktop screen even though it is already set to full mode. I can see black screen on both left and right sides of the screen.

    I already searched this forum for the solutions but still no luck. My laptop is Dell Inspiron 125 and my processor is Intel Core 2 Duo. I don't know if that helps...

    Additional information: I boot into safe mode and all the games display fine.

    We might be able to help if we knew what hardware you have. can you fill in your system specs?

    I'm sorry I don't know what to put there. I know how to go to the Device manager but I can see so many items there. I'm not too techy.

    In the interim, I would check to be sure that your drivers (especially gfx card and monitor) are updated to the Windows 7 OS; and that your native resolution and aspect ratio correspond to your gfx card/monitor.

    It sounds like a driver update might fix your problem. To update your drivers, simply go to your graphics card manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for your card. If you don't know what card you have, you can download a program like Speccy. Once installed and run, it should tell you the specs of all the hardware inside your computer.

    NVIDIA Drivers:

    Also, make sure that you're setting the resolution of the game to the correct aspect ratio. (i.e. 16:9, 16:10, 4:3) This is done through the resolution settings. If you're not certain what your aspect ratio is, there's an easy way to make sure that you're using the correct one. Simply take your native resolution and divide the first number by the second. The result will be something like 1.6. This simply means that the first number width should be 1.6 times the height [16:10]. When choosing your resolution in game, either choose your native resolution or make sure that width divided by height gives your the same result as your native resolution.

    For Example:

    My native resolution is 1680x1050. This uses an aspect ratio of 16:10, or 1.6:1.

    When choosing a resolution I need to choose one that results in 1.6 when I divide width by height. 1440 x 900 or 1280 x 800.

    I already tried updating the drivers, it's saying that I have the latest ones. When it comes to the resolution, everything is okay. In Vista, I did not have this problem. And I just booted into safe mode, the games also display fine.

    I downloaded Speccy and here are the results...

    These are the latest drivers for your graphics card:

     Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* 7(exe)

    You should keep in mind that your graphics card isn't going to allow you to place some of the newer games at high resolutions. If you're attempting to play anything that's got high system requirements, you probably don't have the required hardware in order to play the game. Check the system requirements of the game before you start worrying too much.

    If I update the driver, nothing will get affected? I'm afraid because my OS might crash again. The games are just GTA San Andres and World of War Craft. Nothing new really..
