Windows 7: horrible colors on my hp m9000t desktop

I had a hp m9000t desktop (nvidia 9400GS factory installed graphics card) with matching hp2007 (20") monitor. Vista was giving problems and hence I decided to upgrade to windows 7. Installation was very easy - I chose clean install after reformatting my hard drive. Windows 7 is fast and good. But it sucks big time in a very important aspect. The colors are horrible. They are very intense fluorescent colors and no fiddling of settings on monitor can change it. I can't even look at pictures I transfer from my camera. It is almost to the point I want to dump windows7 and go back to vista. tried updating the graphics card drivers from nvidia website but it has no effect. Has anyone else seen this behavior on an m9000t desktop. Is there a way out so I can keep my windows7? Thanks

It sounds like you need to change/update your video driver. You are probably running a generic Windows driver from the install.

Please go to your Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager and right click on Video Adapters > "Your Adapter" and check the Drivers tab. Tell us what driver version it reports.

It can also help if you can fill in your "My System Specs".

Your PC can run 32 bit or 64 bit OS and since you have not filled out your specs it's hard to know what to say really. The only thing I can say is that HP does not have either 32 or 64 bit drivers for your PC but do have 32 and 64 bit Vista versions and your video card drivers are from 2008.

I would consider that your best course would be to download CCleaner and Drivesweeper, uninstall the video drivers and the graphic card in control panel which resets your graphics to 800x600 as it would be in SAFE Mode. Run CCleaner and Drivesweeper removing anything concerning video.

Go to HP and download the appropriate drivers for your PC (remember they are Vista drivers), shut down and cold boot, allow the system to load generic drivers then run the software from HP, once completed go to Control Panel>Device Manager>Display Adapters>Properties>Driver and Update Driver pointing it to where the HP software placed it on your hard drive.
