Windows 7: Nvidia 5500 fx and Windows 7 Resolution

Hi Im having problem with my AGP 8x Nvidia 5500 fx. 256mb/128bit. I installed windows7 flawlessly but the problem is with the resolution. If I use DVI i only get a resolution of 1280x720(recommended) and for VGA it is 1360x768. I always want to use DVI. how can i get 1366x768 on dvi? my monitor is 18.5"

On my past OS. (windows xp) i dont have a problem with the DVI (1366x768 resolution) so that means the problem is within the driver. Hope someone could help me.

or just to confirm if this steps are right.

If the resolution is not listed under Screen Resolution (right mouse click on desk top and choose Screen Resolution) then your only choice is to run it on VGA I'm afraid, the card is getting along in years.

You might want to read what jwalk posts about using the same card it's worth reading and may solve your issue as well.

The good news is: AGP cards that are much faster than the 5500 are available pretty cheaply

My emergency old system has an expensive at the time AGP 5900XT in it though and it's still decent on Windows 7 32-bit once I got it to 2 gigs of RAM.

Windows 7 is bloatware as usual, I'd not want to run it with a 5500 for very long, but I suppose if all you do is surf, listen to mp3s, email, and word processing, and such, it might be OK.

I'm assuming the sticking to 5500 end of life product is a must, otherwise, you have some choices.

I'd try ebay for a used one, once you determine what your system can handle, a whole other fun task itself.
