Well, here's the thing. I can't get to anything in windows 7 because when i do the install it crashed on the 1st reboot after editing registry settings. So there is nothing to get to. I installed my 8800GTS and everything runs great. If I install my 8800GTX it crashes immediatly after the first reboot.

Hi Jverse, welcome to the forums.

If you think that it's your video card that's the issue then you could try Install Windows 7 in safe mode and see how you get on.

    Hope this helps :)

I've already tried that, but a specific file does not get installed after the crash. So it won't boot into safe mode. But, what I am going to do is put in the GTX when I get home now that I have 7 back up and do some testing from there. I read a couple of posts back that seven has h264 built in? Is that correct? If so I will do some testing on that codec in the system....

    Thanks...

Hi again! I've good news minna! ^o^

I've reinstalled Windows 7 in an attempt to get MPC HC with EVR Custom Presenter working. This time I have installed build 7137 and get the same error, with & without the 185.85 nVIDIA drivers. But I've solved the problem easily. Seems to be something wrong with the H.264 decoder built in Windows 7 (try to play something in WMP12 and you'll get the same error).
So, to fix the problem, just go to Programs -> K-Lite Codec Pack -> Configuration -> ffdshow video decoder. Once there, in the left-side options click "Decoders" and change the "H.264/AVC" codec from "disabled" to "libavcodec". This will allow you to use the EVR Custom Presenter again without problems. :)

Hope it helps you all and leave comments to know if everything went well!
Well I'll be dammed, everything works just fine even under 7100 RC!
    Thanks a lot !!

Using the libavcodec H264 filter would mean no DXVA support. The Microsoft H264 filter seems to be fine.

libavcodec's H.264 does support DXVA like the Microsoft's one. And it's way better than the one provided by Microsoft since it doesn't have the problem we are discussing in this thread.
You just have to configure it properly.

I think you have a bad card. my 260 is stock, my second one I bought was stock, but I got one clocked at 640 or something like that. it's completely stable with win 7.

try the Vista drivers for win 7 instead. they worked for me for weeks

Could you enlighten me as to how libavcodec's H264 filter can be made to use DXVA? Only Microsoft's and MPC-HC's internal filter worked for me. Cyberlink's won't even render.

I can tell that because I've tested that. When I turn off the DXVA support with, for example, my BD-Rip of Resident Evil Degeneration in H.264 at 5 Mbps. and 1920x1080 (non-interlaced), my processor just can't play it smoothly. When I turn on the DXVA support, it plays great and even my graphics card's temperature sensor goes up a little.

Do you by chance have any guides for such a configuration? Or some brief instructions please?

If you were referring to MPC-HC's internal H264 filter (based on libavcodec's H264 filter) I'm afraid it introduces more problems than Microsoft's does (at least for me).
